BOOKS

Electric Watch Encyclopedia (?),  published 1998 by Green Arrow Graffitti (Tokyo, Japan), ISBN 4-7663-3199-0. Japanese language book in a small (5.5x8") magazine format focusing on digital watches of LED and LCD styles. A bit more than half of the book includes modern LCD watches, including those that are more unique than a "plain" watch -- both in style and function. But a good amount of the book does include 1970s LEDs and some early LCDs. There are some great pictures of the early Longines LCD model and a green LED Pulsar.

The Digital Watch Repair Manual, by Louis Zanoni, published 1980 and currently sold by Zantech (the quartz watch supply house), 7501 N. Harker Dr., Peoria, IL 61615, (800) 441-7569, (309) 692-8326, price $19.95 plus shipping. This small book has a wealth of information on the fundamentals and functioning of LED and LCD watches. It mainly focuses on watch repair, but those readers who just want good, clear general information on how watches work, will not be disappointed. Lou Zanoni was a top-notch watch repairman who created Zantech (one of the best sources for watch repair supplies). Sections include overviews on the LED and LCD watch modules, how to troubleshoot, how long do watch batteries last, and even how to test your quartz crystals. A good value for some great information!
